I’m not looking forward to tomorrow…we have practice for graduation. This is the 4th graduation I’ve played, and Pomp and Circumstance only gets more annoying every time. Although, for the past two years I’ve played the Euph part, as it contains the melody more often than the trombone part, and, honestly, all people listen for is the obnoxious melody… And the graduating classes at our school is large (200+) so it’s gonna be a few times through the theme.
Funny story about this anyway. I went to band today to grab my music before going back to the Library, where I was involved in an informal Sporcle competition. I went in to our band director’s office to get it from him and to show him my pass, and he says, while looking through the music, “You don’t want to know what that said…” Knowing EXACTLY what he was talking about, I reply, “Oh, I already know.” Someone, on a copy (not an original) had crossed out the “-stance” from “Circumstance” and replaced it with “-cision.” That’s been there since before our new band director was hired 4 years ago. Oh, the maturity level of band kids is so high…
